Jagannath Temple, located in the coastal town of Puri in Odisha, is an iconic spiritual hub in India. It is believed that Lord Vishnu, disguised as a carpenter, agreed to carve the idols on the condition that he would not be disturbed. The impatient king, however, interrupted him before the idols were completed, resulting in the deities’ unfinished forms, which are worshipped to this day.

Rath Yatra – The Festival of Chariots: The most famous festival associated with the Jagannath Temple is the Rath Yatra, also known as the Festival of Chariots. This annual event sees the deities of Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra placed on massive chariots and pulled through the streets of Puri by devotees. This grand procession is a symbolic representation of Lord Jagannath's journey to his aunt's house. The festival attracts millions of devotees from across the globe, making it one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.

These include Mangal Aarti (early morning prayers), food offerings (Bhoga), and evening rituals. One of the unique aspects of the temple is its kitchen, said to be one of the largest in the world, capable of feeding thousands of devotees every day. The food, known as Mahaprasad, is cooked in earthen pots using firewood, and it is believed that the prasadam is sanctified by the Lord himself.

The kitchen follows strict rituals, and the food is cooked without using onion or garlic, adhering to the temple's ancient traditions.

Significance of the Char Dham Yatra: Jagannath Temple is part of the Char Dham Yatra, a pilgrimage circuit that includes four sacred sites: Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri, and Rameswaram. Visiting all four sites is considered to cleanse the soul and ensure salvation. Among the four, Puri holds a special place due to the presence of Lord Jagannath, who is believed to protect the universe and maintain cosmic harmony.
